Etymologia[muokkaa]

  • muinaisenglannin verbin þrawan ("vääntää", "pyörittää", "kiemurrella") imperfektistä þreow; merkityksessä "heittää" (< oletettavasti heittoaseiden tms. pyörityksestä ennen heittoa) keskienglannista saakka. Alkuperäinen merkitys ilmenee yhä joissakin verbin throw käyttöyhteyksissä.
